You Will Need
- 1 half-pipe per learner
- 1 ball
- 2 short ropes
The Set-up
Picture this: two ropes placed about 10 metres apart, marking the starting and ending lines. The whole team starts on one side, eagerly awaiting the challenge ahead.
The Story
The mission is simple yet deceptively tricky – get the ball from the start line to the finish line.
But here’s the catch: the ball must constantly flow forward through the half pipes held by the team members. Sounds easy, right? Just wait!

The Rules
Why Play Free Flow?
- The facilitator releases the ball from the start (no cheating by giving it a push!).
- Team members must ensure the ball only moves forward.
- No one can touch the ball directly.
- The ball can’t be thrown, flicked, or launched.
- If the ball drops or any of these rules are broken, the team must start again.
This game isn’t just about having fun – it’s a powerful tool for developing key leadership and teamwork skills. Let’s dive into the debrief and explore the valuable lessons Free Flow can teach.
Making a Plan and Working Out the Flaws:
In Free Flow, the team quickly learns that charging ahead without a plan leads to failure. Success requires strategy and foresight. Players must collaborate, brainstorm ideas, and create a workable plan to keep the ball moving smoothly. This mirrors real-life scenarios where planning and anticipating obstacles are crucial for success.
Persistence:
